The Unlikely Adventure of
RACE McCLOUD, PRIVATE EYE
Reactivating in New York City, September 2010!
Black Henna Productions is proud to bring The Unlikely Adventure of Race McCloud, Private Eye back to the New York stage after a successful run at FringeNYC '09.
The Unlikely Adventure of Race McCloud, Private Eye is a comic-book style adventure/comedy about the second-most clueless detective in Westside City. When his secret-agent family goes missing, it is up to Race and his 15 year-old super-genius niece Cookie to find them. Their search takes them around the world, and they soon face off against a masked vigilante, vampires, werewolves, ancient Egyptian curses, Perfect Troopers, and more as they hunt for their missing relatives.
At FringeNYC, Race McCloud sold out 4 of its 5 performances in a 100 seat house, including a late-night Costume Party performance, where audience members were encouraged to attend dressed as a favorite character from TV, film, or comics. At the festival, Race McCloud was a hit among the fanboys and fangirls who eat up such superhero fare as Spider-Man and The Dark Knight, and it was also a big hit among families, with parents and kids alike eagerly expressing their enthusiasm for Race and Cookie's unlikely adventure.
Writer/Director Tom Hoefner first created Race McCloud over ten years ago, as the main character of a series of Murder Mystery Dinners that he began writing while a student at St. Josephs College, Brooklyn, at the age of 18. This new, definitive production of Race McCloud features an original score by composer Andrew Barkan ( Conlag, Noor, ads for Sprint), choreography by popular Broadway Dance Center instructor Lainie Munro ( Hope and Faith w/Kelly Ripa, Oklahoma! w/Rue McClanahan), fight choreography by Eugene Solfanelli (Broken Crayons), and promotional artwork and scenic design by cartoonist and graphic designer Kev Gillespie (www.rhcomics.com). The cast combines both young and established talent, most of whom are returning from the FringeNYC production, and is headed by Tom Brown as Race, Fiona Kearns as Cookie, Eugene Solfanelli as Green Suit Jacket Man, and Ted Frank as The Narrator.
Black Henna Productions (www.blackhennaproductions.com) came to be in fall 2003, when a handful of innovative artists decided to embark on a journey, the goal of which was to form a new theatre company forged in the image of Shakespeares Globe Theatre, where every member collaborated on every piece, either writing, acting, directing, designing, or filling any other role that fit their own personal skills. What came from this venture was an independent theatre company, run entirely by theatrical artists, with the commitment to bring new, exciting, and challenging theatre to the world.
